The President's Message

I am honoured to be the twenty seventh President of the Glasgow Islay Association.
Thank you to Peter Campbell for all his hard work during his three year reign as President.
Who would have thought when I attended my first Gathering back in the early 80`s that 26years later I would be President.
I am Islay born and bred and have the full support from my parents Islay and Margaret Campbell, sisters Caroline, Maureen and Sharon, as well as my wife Elizabeth, daughters Alison and Clare, mother in-law Cath Crawford, family and friends. My family are actively involved with Gaelic choirs attending local and national mods and they have all graced the platform performing at The Islay Gathering.
In 1985 I left Islay and started working with Glasgow Education Department as a service engineer, and currently I am one of 29 Principal technicians employed throughout the city.
As a family, we make frequent visits to, and regularly holiday on Islay, the Machrie links being a favourite place for Elizabeth and myself. On the seventh day, the Sabbath, God did not rest; he made the Machrie golf links! The family are currently living in Erskine where we have been for the past 19 years, although Islay is always regarded as home and who knows, one day we may return.
It is my intention to keep the Glasgow Islay flag flying high and serve the association`s cause and promote its aims. To achieve this can I ask that you all continue to support the current office bearers and committee members as we work towards our 150th celebrations in 2012.
